2008 has been a watershed year for our region as we witnessed dramatic shifts in the national economy in housing, credit and manufacturing, extreme highs and lows in the price of oil, two hurricanes, a national election and the first term of the United States' youngest governor. Throughout it all, the Bayou Region economy has stayed on an enviable track of growth and stability, even garnering top marks in mulitple national rankings. It has been a good time to be part of the Bayou Region.

2005 was an incredibly full year for SLEC and as you will see, we have accomplished a great deal in these past 12 months. 2005 was a year marked by opportunity and challenge.  It was a very aggressive year. During 2005 three new major programs were launched. New public events were held with very positive results from those who participatedSLEC also served in key roles in several special projects relating to homeland security, support to parish government and labor studies. We also found ourselves at the center of response to the devastating effects of, first, Hurricane Katrina and then Hurricane Rita – first in response to the preservation of life and property, and then, in response to the need to assist businesses affected by these storms.
